Not enough 'time'
If you find yourself asking ‘why isn’t there enough time in the day to do the things that I want’… you’re asking the wrong question.
Time is a concept. Things can be time sensitive. Things can be pressured by time. But no matter what, when or where you are, you are in that moment of now.
It is our mind that creates this pressure because we need to meet some expectation. In some cases this is very relevant and necessary. But how can we best serve ourselves and the world when we function from a place of stress?
The question should be, “how can I adjust my lifestyle and habits so that I am more efficient with the way I work and have a good balance of rest and work?”
Some of my suggestions:
1. Know when to say no
Train yourself to know when something is necessary to do now or when it can wait. Know whether it is best for you to go out and attend that function or when your energy is best conserved to stay home.
Our life is a gift. Don’t waste it on moments that you said yes to when deep down you know you shouldn’t have but did anyway. Learn to honour your preferences. This life is a precious time for us to realise the highest expression of ourselves.
2. Sleep earlier - wake up earlier
You will be surprised at how much you are able to accomplish before midday if you wake up as the sun rises. Nature wakes up with the sun. Harness that invigorating energy of the sun to start your day. I sleep around 10pm and wake up around 5am. This sounds difficult but train yourself to do this and see for yourself. I spend at least 2 hours to myself before engaging in any work. Nourishing yourself this way can change how you approach the rest of your day more creatively, efficiently and at ease.
3. Stop telling yourself you can’t
Words have vibration. By saying the words I can’t are creating doubt within yourself and allowing limitation to manifest. These limiting beliefs have been conditioned within us from old stories that we have told ourselves passed down from our ancestors or past impressions. Change your perspective by becoming aware of the mind. The mind’s role is to discriminate. Utilise your intelligence with the knowledge that everything is happening perfectly, in the right timing and for the evolution of everything. It is your birthright to receive the best in whatever way best is for you.
4. Know when you’re doing too much
Being creatively driven, we tend to do too many things at one time. Tend to over complicate things unnecessarily. Have so many ideas that we want to execute but feel we don’t have capacity or have too many things going on that we aren’t able to focus on one thing at a time. Plan out your day and week. Set goals for what you need to achieve. Create a strategy and plan for how you can achieve those short or long term goals.
When we can relax and remain in a balanced state, we will not overwork or burn ourselves out because we will intuitively know when to pull back. Ask yourself about whether living your life this way is actually enjoyable or not.
5. Come back to your intention
Where intention goes, energy flows. Remind yourself what fuels your soul purpose. Connect to the kind of lifestyle you want to live. Let that be your focus and create the lifestyle you want accordingly. Take action towards the realisation of this dream. Do things that keep you in balance and remind you of what is important and what makes you feel inspired, fulfilled and healthy.
Being an entrepreneur I find that my life revolves around my work right now, and I LOVE IT. The reason why I love it is because the kind of work that I am attracting and the amazing personalities I get to co-create with. As long as I find the right amount of balance in my life of knowing when to rest, turn off, recharge in nature and watch netflix, my life is like a working retreat.
Even when I’m super busy, I will always prioritise myself. Giving myself a break during the day to go for a swim or soak up in the sun. Taking a mid afternoon break to read poetry with a tea or even not work on a Wednesday so I can have a full day to recharge. Changing your mindset in these little ways I have found has really changed the way I approach my day to day.
If we all lived in a way that is tuned in to a state of balance, imagine how improved our relationships, health and creativity would flow.
